Indian Army has reportedly updated its social media policy as of December 2025, shifting from a blanket ban on certain apps to a more nuanced “passive participation” model.


According to the new guidelines, personnel are permitted to use various platforms under strict conditions to ensure operational security while allowing them to stay informed.

Key Highlights of the New Guidelines


Prohibited: No posting of user-generated content, no commenting, and no “likes” or reactions are allowed.
Purpose: The goal is to allow soldiers to stay informed and flag suspicious, fake, or misleading content to their superiors without compromising their identity or location through active engagement.

Permitted: Use of these apps is allowed for the exchange of unclassified information of a general nature.
